CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. A meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce was held last evening, to receive a deputation, consisting of Messrs. Walker and McManaway, representing the Marton-Levin Railway League. The president (Mr. J. B. Richards was in the chair, and there were present Messrs. W. McDonald, C Martin, P. Thomson, J. W. Boon, and D. J. Malone. In outlining the proposals of the League, Mr. Walker stated that a considerable sum of money was to be expended in moving the Palmerston North station to a position about a mile from its present site, and thus relieve the existing congestion. The League considered a far better course would be to run a line from Mavton through Levin, over a practically level stretch of country, thus diminishing the Marton-Wel-lington rim by 15 miles, and relieving Palmerston North of this traffic, beside! saving an hour on the running time. This would obviate the necessity of removing the Palmerston North station. In addition, Mr. Walker considered there would be a saving of £ 0000 a year after interest ayl sinking fund had been paid, and the much desired speeding-np of the New Plymouth mail train would be effected.

-Air. McManaway supported the views of the previous speaker. The matter was then discussed by the Chamber, and. on the motion of Messrs. Boon and Malone. it was decided to instruct the president to place the matter before the Tavanaki Progressive League.
