SELECTION OF TEACHERS.
QUESTION BY MR. R. MASTERS, M.P. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, La«t Night. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., is asking the '{Minister of Education whether, in view of his recent announcement that lie intends to take away the power of discretion flow possessed and exercised by tafiaus Edaaation Boards in making apf>oftttri>»nt.4 and promotions of teachers, and compel etch liiard to make all such appointments strictly according to the grading list, which admittedly is not free from valid objections, or generally regarded as ideal from the point of view of merit and long and efficient service, does he realise that he will thereby be also taking away aft the rights of school Committees in respect to such appointments, and that under his sew compulsory restrictive proposal the fact of tiwr* being nin* boards separately controlling and dealing with teachers in their ¥eS(pective districts means that Justice will not be at&ured to all claims if teachers as well as absolute Dominion promotion.
