PROPOSALS IN NEW BILL .4 SAVINGS BANK INTEREST (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The Post and Telegraph Amendment Rill, introduced in tlie House o{ Jttyresentatives, increases from £IO6O to £SOOO the maximum deposit Upcli which interest will be paid by the lost Office Savings Bank. Interest Will be paid at the higher rate (4 per cent) up to £SOO, and at the lower rat# «i tht balance of the deposit up to £SOOO. The Postmaster-General ii given power 11 issue licenses to any persons, associations, or corporations for the installation and working within New Zealand or aboard any ship registered in New Zealand, of apparatus for wireless telegraphy. This will enable the Minister to make provision for wifeless schools or for private etpsrittefitefS. The Post Office's financial year, whioh at present closes on December 91. It made to close on March 31, thus bringing it into line with the financial jmrt of the other State departments. Among other clauses of the Bill It Q» authorising the imposition of fittM Jtat exceeding 5s in any case in r<sp4fit of breaches or neglect of duty by dUcfcrs of the department.
