The rise in the cost of pap-r continues to produce mortality atmng Canadian newspapers, writes the Toronto correspondent of tlie London Times, which was established nearly half a century ago, and under eho control of Mr W. It is hoped that a ~n >.'ga-' nisation will be effected and the paper continue, but as yet the necessary new capital has not'been obtained. Some months ago the Brantford Courier was absorbed by the St. Catharine's Journal, with a long and honourable history, lias. also ceased publication. A year or more ago the Toronto Times closed its doors, and in Montreal and the West there have been suspensions or amalgamations of various daily publications. It is probable that damage amounting to over £IOOO has been done in Wellington city within the past two months by the window-breaker, says the Dominion.
