HARBOR BOARD. " (From Our Own Correspondent) Waitara, August 17. The Waitara Harbor Board held its monthly meeting on Friday last. Present: Messrs. Ogle (in the chair), Snjrdie, Gribbon, Nosworthy, and McKenzie. An apology was received from Mr. Hine. It was decided that a clause be inserted in harbor leases permitting ten- i iintS to crop for the first three years, and the land then to be Sown in mixed grasses. The Farmers' Co-operative Society Wrote stating that owing to the shortage of cement they were Unable to go on with their building meantime, and asking permission to use the shed lately held by Nolan and Co.—The Society to be given every facility. Mr. J. Anderson applied for two unsold sections in Waitara West.—Agreed to at a rental of £4 from August 1. The secretary reported that the south wall was in a very bad state; minor repairs had been done, but would not be of a lasting nature. Members of the Board expressed the opinion that it would take thousands of pounds before the wall would be any good, and even then its benefit would be doubtful.

GENERAL. Mr. Morgan, the Mayor, who has been itt bad health for some time, and is under the care of Dr. Walker, is now able to get about again, although he is somewhat weak. Mr. Procter, who has had a very bad time with rheumatic fever, is now, 1 am pleased to report, on the mend. A bit of excitement was caused in the Main Street on ■ Tuesday morning, through the bolting of three horses attached to a dray. They commenced their stampede outside Topless Bros.' shop, and were brought to a standstill jtist past the school without any casualties or damage being done. The storekeepers report having had a big run on butter during the last few days. Probably stocks are being laid in owing to the anticipation of a rise. •
