POPULATION.
ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES. During the month of July 3600 persons arrived in New Zealand as compared with 1705 in July last year. Of the arrivals last month, 1529 came from the United Kingdom and 1832 from Australia. The departures totalled 2042 as f against 995. The bulk of those who left' New Zealand last month went to Australia. The arrivals last month exceeded the departures by Gff4, while in July last year the gain was 770.
The total .estimated population of the Dominion on June*3oth last year was 1,241,295. The increase during the June quarter was: By excess of births over deaths, 4485; by ersess of immigration over emigration, 98. The births registered during the quarter numbered 7412 a decrease of 119 on the number for the preceding quarter, but an increase of 1276 when compared with the June quarter, 1919. The birth-rate for the six months ended June 30th is equa! to an annual rate of 25.51 per 1000 of mean population, as compared with a rate of only 21.53'f0r the year 1019.
