The Irish hierarchy, in a collective protest regarding the treatment of Archbishop Mannix, says he only used his right as a citizen of the Empire to criticise the conduct of the Government, and set forth fearlessly, in plain and dignified language, the claims of the Australian democracy, and the rights of his own people in Ireland.—Aus.-N.Z. BRITISH GOVERNMENT DENOUNCED New York, August 16. Resolutions denouncing the British Government and Mr Lloyd George for refusing to allow Archbishop Mannix to enter Ireland were carried at a mass meeting of 15,000 in Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. A meeting of 500& at Montreal also denounced the attitude of the British authorities in yigorous terms. —Aus.-N.Z.
