LOSS OF A CHURCH.

| TOTALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. August 1(1. St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Wellington Terrace, a handsome wooden huilding erected in 18"8. wns destroyed by fire this morning. Only four walls were left standing. „ The outbreak originated in the organ loft, and was discovered about -2 o'clock. A strong? southerly wind was blowing lint fortunately heavy rain fell and the brigade was able to nrevent the destruction of the large hall at the rear of the church. The roof of the hall'was burned "rd q oood deal of damage done *o the huilding bv water'. The Kev. Robertson Orr, minister of St. Andrew's, is a heavy loser by the fire, half of his large library, which was in one of the eliurch 3 rooms, being reduced to ashes. Other books in his fine collection were destroyed in a fire which seriously damaged the church hall last year. The church was insured by the Presbyterian Church insurance funds for .£(1300 and the contents for £f>oo. The risk was distributed by the Church Insurance Board. £OSOO of the total being placed with the South British Company.
