ATTEMPT TO REFLOAT THE LUSITANIA.
Tf the refloating of the Lusitania proves successful it will result in die division of at least £3,000,000 behv-.?ti a French salvaging company, the British Government, and the Cunard Line, according to an announcement made in Paris by tiie directors of the steamship line. Although extensive preparations are being made for the venture, the Cunarcl Company does not expect success, pointing out that the size of the vessel and the depth to be overcome will make the operation the costliest in the history of such work. Nevertheless, the wealth of jewellery, gold and silver bars known to have gone down with the ship, olio's an unprecedented, inducement to the <al--jvage company. Experts have decided | that it will be necessary to cut ihe vessel into five portions, expel the wrier under pressure, and then bring the sections to the surface. Tt is estimated that at least a year will he required for the work, if successful. The largest vessel raised heretofore by tW system had a tonnage of only 8000. The French Navy officials are interested, for, if successful, the Government may consider seriously the project for the* refloating (of many valuable ships sunk in shallow water by submarines.
