NEW PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.
THE MONTHLY MEETING. TJie usual meeting of the New Plymouth High School BoaTd of Governors was held last evening. : Messrs. h. 0. Sladden (in tho Wiair), J. S. Pox, A..E. Washer, F. W. Atkinson, L. A. Nolan, A. Morton, S. G. Smith, M.P., and H, Trinvblc. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. Fookes and Mr. E P. Webster. Correspondence was read from various boards regarding schemes of accident insurance, and it was resolved that similar action be taken along the linos adopted by the Otago Board, namely to ask the Education Department to undertake the risk on behalf of the Board. The committee appointed to confer with the Borough Council regarding closing and draining Hendric Street, reported and it was decided that the Borough Council be asked to close the street from Avenue Road to Hobson Street. Tenders had been received for the erection of a sick room, and the action of tho Bnilding Committee in accepting was confirmed. Members of the Board are to meet, on the ground to select a' site at an early date, also to deal with the matter of fencing off sections adjoining the boundary houses. A request made in Miss Barr's report for a store room, was left in the hands of the Building Committee. A letter received from tho teachers of the preparatory department regarding a cost of living bonus being granted them is to be forwarded to the Education De? partment.
The report of the sub-committee to report on boys' boarding matters recommended that fees be raised £1 per term, from next term, and dinner fees by 10s. The secretary was authorised to circularise parents to this effect at the end of'the present term.
