THE BUILDING SCHEME.
BOARD OP TRADE'S APPROVAL. LOCAL COMMITTEES FORMED. \ By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington. Last Night. The offer by representatives of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Builders' Federation, and the Employers' Federation to assist in the administration of new building regulations has been approved by the President of the Board of Trade (the Hon. E. P. Lee). The matter was thoroughly discussed by a- deputation with member* of the Board last week, and a practicable plan of co-operation was evolved. Advisory committees, consisting of the inspector of factories for the district and representatives nf the organisations of architects, builders, employers, and labor (one member for each interest), are to be set up in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill. These committees will not lie concerned with applications for permits to) erect dwellings, essential farm buildings and buildings for local bodies and public works, but will give advice in rega.rdjto other applications. No powers willfbc vested' in these committees. Their functions will be wholly advisory; and they will express opinions to the Board of Trade on applications (except those mentioned), which have to be first lodged with the local authorities. Each committee's advisory sphere will be the territory covered by the inspector of factories for the district. The Board of Trade is confident that these committees' local knowledge will be valuable in assuring a satisfactory working of the regulations. A similar system of local committees in connection with others work of the Board has been justified by results,
