The Christchurch Sun olaims to have received exclusive information that the Government has decided to collect income tax from the racing clubs for as far back as 1010. An Act was passed in 191« permitting this to be done, but it was till 1920 that a test case was taken to Bee if it was legal! Mr Justice Chapman ruled that the Act meant what it, said. The Commissioner of Taxes has been apparently sitting on his hands all this time, and has now decided to go ahead, or, rather, back. The racing clubs pay seven taxes already. This is the eighth. If the Government perseveres with the idea soma of the clubs will have to pawn all their assets.
