A cable from New York announces the death at New London (Connecticut) of James O'Neil, the actor. Mr T. S. Weston, of Wellington, who lias been on a trip to the East, arrived back at Wellington on Tuesday. Mr K. N. H. Browne, local deputyPublic Trustee at Auckland, has resigned from the Public Service, in order to engage in. legal practice. Mr. T. E. Roberts, who has held the position of assistant-deputy-Public Trustee at Auckland for the last nine months, has resigned. He will leave in a few day 3 for Patea, where he has become a partner in a legal firm. Mr. Roberts was controller of soldiers' estates in Wellington throughout the war. His Honour Judge H. V. Borst, of the Supreme Court in the State of New York, and Grand Sire of the Sovereign Grand Lodge of America, accompanied by Mrs Daisy Snook Borst, a member of the Bar in the State of New York, arrived at Wellington by the Manuka from Sydney on Tuesday. Judge Borst and Mrs Borst are •on a Tour of Australasia.
An old resident of Auckland, Mr George Lendrum, died last week at Pompallier terrace, Ponsonby, aged 77 years. Many ago Lendrum's stables in Queen street were so well known as to be almost * household word. Incidentally, it may be mentioned (says the Herald) that when the present Prime Minister, Right Hon. W. P. Massey, landed in Auckland, it was Mr Lendrum who drove him to his first place, of abode. Mr Lendrum is survived by tliree sons and two daughters.
