The Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting was continued in fine weather, but a cold southerly wind was In evidence. There was a largo attendance. The course was in good order, hut not fast. Alsc tan: Tortrtx, Hands Off, Necessity. Won by a length, the same distance between second and third. Time, 5.19%. . HUNT CLUB CUP.—Bill Terry (A. Wormald) ), Wickiow 2, Golden Graiie 3. Also ran: Lawsuit, Dunmure, Nautiboy, Southerner, Leaflet. Won by 100 yards. Lawsuit fell. Time, 5.12. BEAUFORT STEEPLECHASE —Oaklelgh (E. Warner) l. Crib 2, San Sebastian 3. Also ran: Golden Prince, Ormcsbv, Merry Lad, John Bunny, Collector, Stone Ginger. Won by eight lengths, six lengths between second and third Collector and Ormesby fell, and Golden Prince lost its rider. Time, T.H. SUMNER HANDICAP.—WaIton (M. McCarten) 1. High Heels 2, Carmine 3. Oaklcigh was n hot favorite for the Beaufort Steeplechase, and he won easily, after being one of the. lenders all the way Form pointed to him after the Grand National (-olden Prince was out m front from the start, and seemed to be going well, when he came down at the kennels double It was the first time he had ever fallen. Crib finished on well to heat San Sebastian, who was tiring, and just lasted lone; enough to get third, with Merry I,ad clow up Carmine was a strong favorite for the Sumnat Handicap, but though he finished well he was too badly placed early to have any chance. Hvlans gradually worked his way through from the back and he and Kauri King were in front at the last hurdle. Hylans then drew away, hut .lack Symons came with a great run and just failed by a neck. It looked as if he was unlucky. All the same the performance or Hylans was a smart one Fisher was third being prominent. J.adoguer was stopping badly at the end. hut too much use was made of mm. All Talk fell when in the lead.at'the end of half the journey while at the next hurdle Clay Light was going well when he fell and broke his neck, but they were too far from home to permit calculations as to how they would have shaped.
