SCARCITY OF TEACHERS.
OTHER EDUCATION MATTERS. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Wigftt. Mr. R. Masters (meqiber for Stratford) has given notice to ask the Minister of Education whether, in view of the great shortage in the supply of trail* ed and efficient teachers required for primary schools, particularly in the country districts, and generally because of the need to reduce the size of large classes, and also the inadequate supply of properly trained nnd thoroughly qualified male teachers for existing' technical and secondary .schools, he will see that the present urgent educational requirements in the foregoing connection are satisfactorily provided for before further new proposals are adopted to raise the Bchool age for attendance to compulsory continuation classes, or new types of schools are established, for which extensions a large supply of trained and efficient teachers, as well as greatly increasing building accommodation, are required. Mr. Masters is also asking for a return showing the number of primary schools for which grants: of over £15,000 have been made during'the last two yeara up to August 10, IQ-20, such return to show: (1) The name of and in what district the school was or is to be erected; (2) in respect to what school'central halls have been approved: (3) in respect to what schools assembly halls have been approved.
