MARKETING OF DAIRY PRODUCE.

KAIMATA FAVORS C.W.S. SCHEME. I Mr. A. Morton (President of the National Dairy Association) addressed the shareholders at Monday's annual meeting of the Kaimata Dairy Factory on the question of marketing. He stated that the position regarding cheese was very satisfactory indeed, as they had a free market, and could place their produce on the Britjsh market and obtain the best price for it. He wished the same satisfactory position ruled as regarded butter. They, were hoping for a free market for butter, but he afraid they were hoping against hope, as the price on tile British market was rising so high that the authorities would be afraid to decontrol it, as the price would probably soar so high that only the wealthy could purchase it, and in this connection a cable in t'hat morning's Daily News showed that Irish butter was realising 4'2os per cwt wholesale. Directors of cheese factories therefore now had to consider the best method of marketing their produce, and in this connection he stressed the need fof lessening the cost of distribution as between the producer and the consumer, pointing out that under the present system butter which the consumer had at home paid 3s for only netted the producer 2s 3d. He then outlined at length the proposed scheme for co-operating With the C.W.S., as already fully reported in the Daily News. In reply to questions, Mr. Morton said that beyond getting a share of the profits on the commission, all t'he C.W.S. got out of the arrangement was the first option of taking the produce at the price fixed by the Board of Control, on which the New Zealand producer had the majority. A hearty rote of thanks was accorded Mr. Morton. Later in the meeting it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Beesby and N. Bracegirdlc, that the directors be recommended to consider the question of joining the proposed company and consigning through the Board of Control.
