WHITELEY FLOWER SHOW.
Tiie annual spring flower show in connection with Whlteley Memorial Church will be held on September 9th., 10th., and 11th., in the seho&l room. This is always a very popular show, and this year the committee we endeavouring to make it even more attractive. There are several valuable trophies that may be competed for as well as numerous classes for decorative competitions. The Whlteley Shield for State Schools will be again offered for competition, the conditions for which are briefly—an exhibit of three blooms each of twelve, correctly named varieties of spring bulbs, tho exhibit to be grown by the scholars of the school nominating. Another class is for the Gibson Daffodil Cup, which also includes three blooms each of twelve correctly named distinct varieties of daffodils, to be grown from bulbs valued at not more than 2s each (Cooper's 19.410 catalogue). The competition is open to all who have never won a daffodil cup. Hitherto the value of bulbs in this class was Is each, but the committee have extended this to 2s bulbs as most of the varieties have increased in cost. A furcher class has been instituted this year for high-class daffodtrs of which three blooms, each of six varieties (correctly named) are required to be staged. In addition to the above, there are classes for decorated tables, mantels, baskets, bowls, and also classes for the best display of cut blooms, and for children's buttonholes.
