PAY OF TEACHERS.
BETTER SALARIES COMING. MORE MONEY AVAILABLE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Referring to the exception taken to a statement which he is alleged to have made in Parliament, that teachers had already received a 66 per cent, increase on their pre-war salaries, the Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education) explained that what he intended to convey wae that, as a result mainly of increases paid to teachers from 1914 to 19*20, the annual cost- of public school teachers' salaries had increased by C 6 per cent. He did not at all intend to convey the impression that each teacher had received an increase of 66 per cent., because that was not correct. ' Mr. .Parr announced that Cabinet has just agreed to find another £250,000 a year for primary school teachers, which will be available Tor distribution as soon as the department gete out a just and equitable scale for an increase. Provision is also being made for increases for technical, native and secondary school teachers.
