LOSS OF COAL.
STATE MINES IDLE. 800 TONS LOST DAILY. Br Teleirapli.—Press AtsocUtlon. ' Greymouth, Last Night. The State mines were idle to-day. oil account of the miners' dissatisfaction over the train service. A "stop-work" meeting was held today, and the men, after considering the departmental reports, decided unanimously that until better travelling facilities were provided they would refuse to'continue work. The executive of the Miners' Union subsequently met the Under-Secretary for Mines (Mr. Kimbell), along with the mine managers, and discussed the grievances, but later they stated that no final settlement was possible until the Railway Department is consulted. The miners say the dispute is with that, and not the Mines' Department ' The miners' representatives contend that the men are anxious for a settlement, but the miners are unanimously against resuming work until an assu*ance is given that tho travelling facilities will be adjusted to enable them to get to and from work without the delay and inconvenience caused them by the existing arrangements. It is impossible to say when the mines will resume, as the men etand firm, as a result of the failure of less extreme! measures to secure an adjustment. The stoppage means the loss of 800 itons of coal daily.
