Scotland Yard announces that Archbishop MannLs will fot be permitted to land at Liverpool. The actual port of disembarkation is the strictest secret. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. RIOT ABOUT MANNIX. DEFENCE BY IRISH BISHOP. Received August 9, 5.5 p.m. London, August 9. Demonstrators in Londonderry hoisted Sinn Fein flags and shouted "Up Mannix." This provoked a Unionist counter demonstration. The police and military intervened, and several were injured. Two Australkn Bishops intend to participate in the welcome at Liverpool. Dr. Browne, Bishop of Cloyne, read & pastoral, letter in Queenstown concerning insulting treatment of Archbishop Mannix, which, lie said, did not lower the exalted esteem in which Archbishop. Mannix- was held by Irishmen. He appealed to Irishmen to avoid giving of-> fence during the welcome and causing irritation. He added that Archbishop Mannix was not £oming as an agitator to make inflammatory speechei, but he was returning to his native land solely to see'his venerable mother and meet friends. He desired that his visit should be unheralded. The Morning Post, describing the Archbishop •as a pestilent, malignant prelate, says: "The Government must not stultify its decision iby half measures. Mannix should be reI shipped to Australia by the first boat." —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. BALTIC RUNNING LATE. GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE UNCERTAIN. London, Augugt 8, It is expected that the Baltic will be 24 hours late. There is a rumor that Archbishop- Mannix will land at Fish-guard.—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn. London, August 7. The Daily Mail says that the Government has decided not to allow Archbisltop Mannix to land at Liverpool—Reu* j-ter. ' . WARNING ON A CHURCH. London, August 7. Anti-Sinn Feiners inscribed the church at Charleville, Archbishop Mannix's birth-place, with a skull and cross-bones and the words: "We are after you, prepare for death."—United Service. BISHOP CONDEMNS EXCLUSION., London, August 8. A letter from the Bishop of Bourne was read at all ,masses at the cathedral in Queenstown, vigorously condemning the English Government's treatment of Archbishop Mannix, "A son and priest of this diocese is not allowed to set foot on his native soil, as though an outlawed criminal because of his outspoken criticism of the English Government in its J dealings .with Ireland, and a plain and fearless exposition of the rights of his j native country to freedom."
