THE t CUP FINAL. HAWERA AND CLIFTON DRAW. AN UNINTERESTING. DISPLAY. The cup final between Hawera and Clifton, 1 which was played at Hawera on Saturday, to decide which club should hold the McMastcrs chamipion shield for the ensuing year, proved indecisive, each team spring six points. The ' game was played in fine weather, though the I rain of the previous day had made the ground greasy. There waa an attendance" of ab;.ut 1200 spectators. The game proved hardly, up to senior standard. The first spell, which was practically confined to the forwards, proved a very dull display, f being a succession of scrums and free kicks, relieved by line kicking, and though Clifton were attacking nearly all the time, and also had numerous Mhois at goal, they did not make the most of their opportunities, and only landed one penalty goal. The second spell proved brighter and was evenly contested, but Hawera made , more use of their opportunities and scored two tries, whilst Clifton only scored another goal, the game thus ending in a draw six points each. The Clifton team played as picked, but the absence of Thurston (half) and Patterson (forward) necessitated re-arrangement of the Hawer:; team. Greig came up from wing three-quarter to half, and C. THIRD GRADE. Rahotu and Old Boys met at Western Park in the presence of a large number of spectators. In the first spell. Pox scored a try for Old Boys, which .Knapman converted. Later In the spell Gilhooley scored, tile spell ending Old Boys D, Rahotu 3. Early in Hie second spell Dowlaml scored another try for Old Boys, which was not converted. Later, Glover scored a try, which was not converted! Borrle landed a penalty goal from near halfway, Rahotu thus winning by 3 points to 8. Mr. C Hoskin rcfereed. Lepperton journeyed in to play High School A, but as there was soino misunderstanding regarding the venue of the match, the country team were only able to muster 11 imen. High School therefore agreed to play the match this afternoon at 1.3# p m. Star thirds were unable to. go to Okato on Saturday owing to there being only one ground available. The match will be played later. FOURTH GRADE. Star beat High School C at the Racecourse. liy 3 points to nil after a great contest. Butter scoring a fine try in the last three minutes. Mr. Searle was referee. Technical College forfeited to High School D. TARANAKI TOURING TEAM. The team to play Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Manawatu, and Wellington will leave by the mail train this morning. Of the twenty picked, Southeombe will not be able to make the trip. Ol'ver will be available next week, Kins (Stratford) was not available. It is hoped that West (Hawera) and Brown {Tukapa), who are away with the Australian team, will bo available for the Wellington match. # j THURSDAY COMPETITION. THE JUNIOR TLAY-OFF. As Inglewood have decided to forfeit to Midlilrst in the match set down for next Thursday, Mldhirst are now level with Clifton in the first junior competition, ft has been decided that the play off between Clifton and Midhirs'. will take place at Inglewood on t&usater Aftajnooa.
