TARANAKI A. & P. SOCIETY.
MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Tavanaki A. and P. Society was held on Saturday. Present: Jlessrs W. B. Grant (chairman), A. T. loore, Z. T. Walker, C. Hoskin, W. Hall, T. Smellie, A. B. Gudopp, A. E. Washer, J. A. Kurth, A. S. Frost, J. E. Rolands, S. Topliss, A. P. Lister, and C. W. iieube. Apologies fo* absence were received from Messrs A. C. Sampson and M. W. Hill. The committee decided to endeavor to arrange with the New "Plymouth Gun Club regarding the drawing up of some form of indemnity for tiie club's use of the Society's grounds, and in respect of any accidents that may occur. With a view to preventing the Waiwakaiho river from encroaching on tho ,A. and P. Society's grounds, it was decided to erect a groyne near the cattle pens, on the lines of a. plan submitted by the county engineer. The committee decided to ask Mr. P. W. Sandford to act as the Society's representative on the Technical College Advisory Board. Mr. John Hale, Avenue Road, notified the committee that he had donated a young ball to the A. and P. Society. This valuable animar, known as Holly Oak's Pretty Lad, when sold, is expected to swell the Society's funds by a sum in the vicinity of £2OO. A very hearty vote* of thanks was accorded Mr. Hale for such a generous donation. ■ A report showing the profits made by the ladies'> committee at the last winter show was submitted by the secretary, the total profits being £124. - The secretary reported that at a meeting oT the Poultry Committee, held on Friday, July 23, Mr. W. Scott, aftei; having been a member of that committee for eleven years, and chairman during the greater part of that time, notified his intention to resign on account of ill health. It was decided to appoint Mr. Scott a life member of the Poultry Club, arid place on record the committee's appreciation of his services for so many years. In connection with the efforts of the ladies' committee at the winter show, the meeting decided to place on record its appreciation of the splendid service rendered by the ladies in all departments. and to give effect to their recommendation to purchase crockery and cutlery for use on future occasions. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr. W. H. Weir, of Toko, for a donation of £5 towards the field acreage competition for next year; and Mr. Gray, manager of the Taranaki Farmers' Meat Company, for his offer of the use of four acres of land for the purpose of growing green fodder for the cattle at the next autumn show.
