HOUSE BUILDING.
FLETCHER'S SCHEME CRITIOI9BD, By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, August 7. On behalf of Mitchell and King, Campbell and Burke, and the Hansford and Mills Construction Company, three of the signatories to the agreement for building 9500 workmen's houses for. Wellington, the chairman of directors of the Hansford and Mills Company writes ito the Post, stating that none of tse firms indicated have, or ever had, any knowledge of the Dominion scheme propounded by Mi;, Fletcher. That scheme does not appeal to any of the three firms as in any way practicable. On the Other hand the scheme propounded for Wellington has within its scope all the ele« mcnts of certainty. "There, is, in fact, actually conoluded an agreement 'between certain capital organisation* and the trade and labor organisation involved, and it has made definite proposals which are open for -the acceptance,or otherwise, of the Government, Mr. Fletcher propounds a scheme for .the amalgamating in one organisation of all the conflicting elements of capital and labor throughout the Dominion, and we think such a. proposal wholly impracticable, and therefore desire to record our dis> approval." Mr. James .Fletcher states that the attitude of the other contractors mqkes no difference to him. He. is; aq convinced that the scheme is on the and so convinced of the urgency of solving the housing problem, that he is still prepared to organise a national scheme and will do everything possible to have the scheme endorsed by the 'Government.
