The total acreage under wheat in the four States is 11% millions, nearly a record. The 1915-16 record acreage was 12% millions. Hides are firm; heavies and medium are %d to %d higher; and light grades are firm at late rates.
A central board, representing the four wheat States, will control the compulsory wheat pool on the lines of the existing pool. The Australian Imports for the year ending June 30 were valued at £97,500,000,£4,500,000 less than for the previous year. Exports were £148,500,000, which was £34,500,000, more than for the previous year.—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn.

There were good yarding* of sheep, fat cattle, and pics at Bumside to-daj\ but the try of lambs was small. Prices for sheen were a shade lower, but lambs and pip wero rcry dear. Fat. cattle priec9 showed a decline of !10s to Itr.s a head compared with las? week's rates. There was a large yarding of. store cattle, which included a few pens of bullocks in forward condition. These were disposed of at prices about eciual to those which ruled last week. Fat Cattle: A large yarding, consisting of. 245 head. The quality as a whole showed an improvement on last week. Prime heavy weight bullocks made up to £29 12s 6d, prime £24 to £26 7s 6d, lighter sorts from £l7 10s to £23; extra prime heifers, £2O 10s; good heifers to £lB 10s, lighter sorts front £ll 10s to £ls 30s.
Store Cattle: A fair yarding came to hand, and prices were slightly in advance of_last week's rates. Steers, two to two and a half years old, in good condition, made from £9 7s 6d to £lO 10s. Dairy cattle were in keen demand, and extra good oows coming into profit brought from £l7 10s to £l9 2s 6d; good cows, £lO 2s Od to £ls 15s, aged cows from £5 lis io £8 19s, inferior and aged to £2 4s (id. Fat Slieep: A large yarding, 2709 being penned. The quality generally was not quite up to last week's stapdard, and prices suffered owing to lack of outside competition. The market opened at about a shilling a head below last week's rates, and towards tne end of tlie sale receded to fully 3s a head. Extra prime heavy wethers, to G4s 6d; prime ivethers, to 58s; good wethers, to 51s; lighter sorts, 40s to 48s; estra prime heavy ewes, to 58s 9d; prime ewes, to D4s; good ewes, to 455; lighter sorts, from 30s. Lambs: A small yarding of 167 came forward, but this proved sufficient for butchers' requirements. Prime sorts, 31a 3d to 33s 3d; medium, 24s 3d to 2Gs. Pigs: A fnir yarding of fats and a small yarding of stores. Competition was keen for alt classes, and prices showed an advance on last week's high prices. Prime baconers brought from £8 Is to £l3 Is.
ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. Christchurch, .August 4. At the Addington market to-day, there was ,i big yarding of fat stock, there being a double ■market In view of,the Grand National holidays next week. Fat cattle showed a marked jump In prices on recent sales, and sold throughout, for prime sorts, at about £4 per 1001b. The sale was remarkable for a record Australasian price for a bullock (£204), two local butchers competing. He was bred and fattened by G. R. VV. Trotter, of Kurow, and has been 8 prolific prize-taker in southern shows. He Is a purebred Shorthorn, ana his live' weight is 30561b. An aged purebred white Bhorthorn bullock, bred by the Rlccarton Estate, live weight 30521b., brought £97. The yarding of fat cattle Included,' entries from Glen Oroua (Ranjiltikai). and Balclutha.
Tha mutton yarding included a big proportion ot crime quality sheep, vendors, represented from the North Island and the western districts of Southland. The top price was given for a North Island Roinney cross Wether (£9 10s), Southland entries realising up to £6 10s.
Store Sheep: A fairly large entry. The prices, which opened at last week's rales, eased as tlie sale progressed. Wether hoggets, 22s 7d to 27s sd; ewe hoggets, 28s to 31s Id; mixed sex hoggets 26s 8d to 2!ls 2d; cull hoggets, 39s to 20s 9d; good two-tooth wethers, 27s to 29s Id; fairly good two, four, six and eight-tooth ewes, 82s Id; good nourtdinouthed ewes, 89s to 408 2d; sound and failing-mouthed ewes, 27s to 32s (id.

Store Cattle: An improved sale. Three-year-old steers brought to £ls 10s; two-year old steers, £8 10s; yearling steers and heifers, £6 108; springing lieifers, £8 14s; yearling heifers, £4 15s to £6 2a 6d; bulla, £7 10s. Dairy Cattle: A fair yarding and a good sale' for all springing sorts. Extra good Ftleslan cross cows, £3l 15s; third calvers, £lB 15s; fourth calvers, £lB ss; good springing heifer*, £lB 15s; ordinary cows, £'B 10s.
