On ini complete preliminary estimates, experts. believe that the New South Wales, Victorian, South Australian and Westralian harvests.will give a saleable stock of 100 to 120 million bttsMs, should the weather continue favourable. A new trade agreement between Canada and the West Indies provides inter alia, that the present mutual preference of 20 per cent, shall be increased to 50 per cent., the free list is extended, a weekly steamship service between Canadian ports and the eastern group of the Indies is to be provided, also a fortnightly service with .the western group. The various Indies Governments are to contribute to thfe necessary subsidies. The eastern service will start not later .than January 1 and the western as soon as possible. The agreement is for ten years, subject to the approval of the Canadian Parliament, the Indies legislatures and the Secretary of State for .the Colonies. Mr. Gunn, leader of the Opposition in the South Australian Parliament, moved a vote of no-confidence in the Government on the grounds that it had received no mandate from electors, had failed to provide adult suffrage for the Legislative Council, and other matters. An international communications conference, under the League of Nations, will be held in Washington on September 15 to deal with the allocation among the Allies and associated powers of the German cables confiscated during the war. ■ In connection with the Sydney railway accident it was incorrectly reported that Michael Sheen had been killed. The name should be Alexander Ritchie, of Commo. . j The House of Lords carried the third, reading of the Nauru Bill. Klisho, secretary of the Kemenfiff Mission, has been ordered to return to Russia. No reasons are given. His English wife is a Court milliner in Mayfair. Klisho was formerly a clerk iii "Vickers and Company. The Council of the League of Nations at San Sebastian approved a permanent international health organisation comprising a general commission representing all States with a permanent committee and general medical secretariat.
