THE RUGBY GAME. TARANAKI DEFEAT MANAWATU. Tlie representative match between Taranaki and Manawatu was .played on the- SlioW Grounds, Stratford, yesterday under fine. weather conditions, before about 2500 people. 1 The ground was in good order. The gaime, though not brilliant, was fast and interesting, and the fact that each team was alternnlively in the lead, added to the in-, terest. Play was generally confined to the forwards, and the Taranaki pack, which was heavier than that of Manawatu, played a fine game, and can claim the credit for the victory. The Taranaki backs again proved disappointing in attack, combination being want-, ing. The Manawatu backs were nippy, but their passing lacked sting. The teams were:— MANAWATU. (White.) The match between Clifton and Stratford juniors, which was ordered to be replayed as the outcome of a protest, was' played as a curtain raiser, and resulted in a draw, each side scoring a try.
