ACCOUNTANTS' SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants held their annual meeting at the Soldiers' Club, New Plymouth, on Tuesday, Mr. Hugh Baily presiding. According to a statement, receipts during the year amounted to £3O, and the expenditure totalled £27 17s Bd, the credit balance thus left being £2 2s 4d. Included in the expenditure was an item of £lO 10s for prizes donated by the branch for the competition in commercial work among pupils of technical and secondary schools in Taranaki. During discussion on the standard of the work done it was stated that the papers of most of the students were of an elementary nature. It was resolved that the co-operation if chambers of commerce be sought, with a view to improving the standard of teaching in schools where commercial subjects are taught.
