The executive committee of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce met last night. Present: Messrs. J. B. Richards (chairman), P. Thomson, J. Ashton, S. Macalister, and C. Martin. Mr. R. Masters, M.P., wrote stating that the Public Works Department had been unsuccessful in securing a. tender for the work of metalling the Mt Egmont track, and as the Minister was desirous of having the work done, any suggestions that the Chamber could make would be welcomed.—Further consideration to be given later. Regarding the Chamber's representations for an improvement in the delivery of goods by rail, ex New Plymouth, the chairman reported that nothing further had been done except that another coastal boat was being put on to run between New Plymouth and southern ports, and he hoped for an improvement on present conditions. The chairman reported on the meeting of the Taranaki Progressive League, and. stated that a deputation would probably be sent to Wellington shortly to press the need of the province. ' The progress of the Stratford-Ohaka-kura railway was briefly discussed, and it was suggested that a sub-committee should be appointed to approach the Minister of Public Works regarding the matter. Mr. Thomson mentioned that tremendous influences were at work in the Auckland province pushing the matter from that end at the expense of Taranaki.—lt was decided to refer the whole matter to the Progressive League for the League's co-operation. Letters regarding the new post office, clock tower, and automatic telephone exchange were received from Mr. R. Masters, M.P., and were dealt with in committee.
