SPELL OF RAIN PBOMISSX After, a period of perfect weitier—warm days and crisp nights with, unusually heavy frosts—unsettled con' ditions set in in Taranaki on Sunday, night, and throughout yesterday tfce raw conditions promised rain, which came in heavy showers early last night. •. Strong winds swept the rain in gusto, which made the conditions unpleasant. The weather report issued last Bight says that the indications are for unsettled and squally weather, with northerly and westerly winds, strong to gale, backing to sontherlies shortly. Baitt may he expected generally, and heavy rain and flooded rivers in the Wert Coast and southernmost districts of the Sooth . Island. The barometer will fall further, but will ripe in the south soon.
