DISTRICT NEWS.
RATAPIKO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Sports and Pastimes Club were favored with much better weather for their euchre party and dance, held In the fiataplko school last Tuesday evening. Ten tables started off shortly after 8 pm., and everyone was keen to win the prize, which made the gasnes very interesting. The Sports Club tare creating aulte a name for themselves typ giving such handaomo prizes at their euchre parties. They arc also giving a gold medal at the end of the season for the highest number of points secured . Mrs. M. Kukllnski won the ladles' prize, j a very fine cake dish, and Mr. JacK Moratti won the men's prize, a beautiful tray. The booby prizes,were won by Miss Potroz, and Mr. Ton Bee'seik. Tho. floor was then cleated for dancing, Mr. Grieg having charge of the floor and Miss Vera Wilson supplying the music. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Stachurskl and family, who are about to leave Rntaplko for the Waitul district, were given a very hearty send-off at their residence recently. Tho house, ul- " though such a big one, was filled to overflowing, the people coming from Tarlki and Kalmata, wnicn goes to show how popular tne Stachurskl family arc. The evening was devoted to cards and dancing, and everyone present seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves The dance music was supplied by Miss V. Wilson, piano, and Messrs Kukllnski and Dravitzkl, accordeon. After a very nice supper had been handed round by the ladies present, Mr. Chas. Therkleson was asked to make the presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Stachurskl. Ho said Mr. Stachurskl had been a director of (be Moa Dairy Company for many years, also chairman of the school committee ,and during his term of office a great deal of the hard work was completed. Mr. Therkleson then, on behalf of the settlers of the district, presented Mr. and Mrs. Stachurski with a handsome oak tray and tea service. Mr Stachurski, on rising to respond, was greeted with rounds of applause, the people then standing and singing 'Tor They are .folly Qood Fcllows" Ho said he would not take all the credit for the work carried out while he was chairman of the school committee. They nil worked together, and he mentioned tho name of Mr. Paul Dravitzki, who was present, as being a great worker. We are all very sorry to lose the Stachurskl family, and especially will we miss Julia, Mary and Joo at our dances and parties; but they are not. going very j far away, and we hope to see thein over to some of our dances. We estend a hearty welcome to tho newcomers in our district: Mr. and Mrs. Fairbrother and family, Mr .and Mrs. Wells and ' family, and Mr.' and Sirs Mills and family. I Mrs. Heatly is still" carrying on good work at the Sunday school, she now having sixteen -hlldren urider her control. The Rev.
