Sytoioy, August 1. At rowing, the Sydney handicap, a mile and a half, was held on the Parrnmat* River. The weather was fine, the water good, and the attendance large. Results:— First Heat—R. Short (10 sec.) 1, Jetton (scr.) 2, 0. Mattcrson (17 sec.) 3. Felton was in groat form. He gradually cut down Shorts' start, hut towards the finish appeared content with second plflce. . Second Heat.—C. Matterson (55 sec.) 1, Barry (scr.) 2, Vent (15 gee,) 3. Barry, with a flue sweeping stroke like a well-oiled machine, crept steadily into ««cond place, with which, like Felton, he appenred content, and finished three lengths beiiud Matterson. Third Heal.—George Towns (45 sec.) 1, West (20 sec.) 2, McDevitt (3 sec.) 3, The oid cx-champion led all the way, and won by linlf a length. Fourth Heat.—T. Cowell (40 sec,) 1, -T. Price (30 sec.) 2, Peterson (20 sec) 3, Dick Arnst (6 sec ) 4. • Won by a length. Arnst showed to great advantage in the early atages, but had to be content with fourth plaeo, All the second pincers qunlifled for the final nest Saturday.
