The course is required to be extended to suit the Australian dogs, and he said the New Plymouth Club was willing to do everything necessary to make the course fulfil the requirements. v Mr. C. J. Hawken referred to a very important matter at the annual meeting of the Mells Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, namely, the tendency of farmers to overstock; Mr. Hawken said he was sure that dairying farmers lost a great deal of money in this way. In stocking |for the summer months the fact that cows had to 'be carried over the winter in good condition was overlooked. For nine months of the year,'ho pcinted out, a cow was in calf, and during the greater part of this time she was being milked, so they\ could understand what a tremendous tax there was upon her. If a cow was not well fed satisfactory results could not be obtained, and a large number of farmers would get better returns if they had a smaller number of cows. It is Mr. Hawken's opinion that the loss to the country and to fanners from overstocking is so great that if it'cost £15,000 or £20,000 for, an expert, who could show farmers the amount of stock their land would carry to the best advantage, it would pay handsomely. The increase of over 34 tons in the output of the Mells factory during the past year was attributed by Mr. Hawken -to the favorable autumn, and showed, (he said, what ample supplies of feed meant. At lijast one dairy, farmer declared his intention after the meeting of reducing his stock.—Star. A good range of flannelettes, striped ani plain, is on sale at the Melbourne, Ltd.
