THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. I Br Telegraph.—Press Assodatloa. I Wellington, Last Night. The conference of the Farmers' Union decided to urge the Government to make all rural mail services free and adequate, and that the levy on local bodies for hospital and charitable aid unduly taxed holders of rural properties and the government should be asked to alter the law so as to raise the money on. a more equitable basis. Remits were carried insisting on making more provision for' competent nursing and medical services in outlyisg districts and asking the Government to bear the cost of maternity expenses in all cases of need. The following officer* were elected: President, Mr. G. W. Leadley (Ashburton) ; vice-president, Mr. T. Moss (Eketahuna); advisory committee, Messrs. E. Bowman (Gore), G. Sheat (Dunsandel). W. D. Harkness (Nelson). R. D. Duxfield (Horotiu), G. L, Marshall (Marton), J. Livingstone (Dannevirke), treasurer, Mr. W. M. Matheson (Eketahuna).
