WAITARA.
TENNIS CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) July 29. The annual meeting of the above club was held at the Fcmters? Ha!', on Monday evening, the president (Mr. G. Fraser) occupying the Chair. The balance-sheet showed the finances to be in a good position. The report mentioned that the club had a most successful season last year and had won several contests; the standard of play had also increased, which was most satisfactory. Beyond ordinary maintenance not much expenditure would be required for the coming season. -A lease of a site on the Camp Reserve was now assured, and the club would have to conserve its finances to put the new courts in order. A sum of £4O had been set aside for this purpose, but more would be required, and it was hoped the incoming committee would keep this end in view and endeavor to add to the amount. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. S. G. Fraser; vice-presidents, Messrs P. J. Allan, H. E. Vaughan, J. Blair, and L. H. Sampson; treasurer, Mr. L. Johnstone; general committee, Messrs C. Tate, B. J. Bennett, J. Eggleetone, H. Brabant, and Nicols; ground committee, Messrs C. Tate, Bennett, and the secretary; ladies' committee, Mesdames Baird, Smith, and Bennett, Misses Gavin, K. Walker, and Bemsten; auditor, Mr! L. H. Sampson After a good deal of discussion it was decided that the annual subscriptions be as follows: Men, £2, reduced to 35s for prompt payment; ladies, 255, similarly reducible to £l. Locker rents the same as previously. The selection of the teams will be done by the captain, who will bo appointed on the opening day. Mr. 8. G. Fraser, who has been president of the club for a number of years, wished to be classed as a "non-starter" this year, and let someone else hold the reins, but the members of the club would not hear of it, so "Grey"' had to give it another go. Miss Annie Fulton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Fulton, of Waitara Road, wns united in marriage to Mr. McCaul, of Sentry Hill, at the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday. A place on the Waiongona river, not far from Lepperton, has been located, where it is estimated that 500 horsepower can be obtained for generating electricity. Messrs Borthwiek's management are interesting themselves, and make a visit with experts on Friday next to get all possible data. Mr. C.
