HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. SCHOLARSHIP ALLOWANCE. By Telegraph.—Fres« Asseolatloß, Wellington, La9t Night. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to Mr. Rhodes (Thames), the Hon. C. J. Parr said he would look into the question of scholarship allowances, and, if necessary, he would bring the matter before Cabinet with a view, of increasing them. He recognised that many parents might find difficulty in keeping a child at a secondary school on the present allowances. OTIRA TUNNEL WORKERS. Replying to Mr. Holland, the Hon. J. G. Coates said the men at the Bealey end of the Otira tunnel were working on day wages. An officer was still inquiring as to the nature of the country in which they were working, and it was his (Mr. Coates') intention to stand by the officer's report. Replying to Dr. Thacker, the Hon. J. Parr Raid there was no intention to "dump" North Island consumptives on to the South Island. The Waikafo sanatorium was being gradually closed, but it was proposed to treat North Island patients at a sanatorium in Hawke's Bay. The Imprest Supply Bill occupied the evening sitting, the House rising at 1.8 a.m.
