ACTIVITY AT THE PORT. After a quiet spell the port of New Plymouth ts becoming busy again, and yesterday there were throe vessels at the wharf—the schooner C. S. Holmes, from San Francisco; the Rakanoa, from Newcastle; and the Rosamond, from Wellington. The arrival of the Rlmu and Mapourika, to-day will bring the total to five, while the Corinna Is due from the south tomorrow. The Rosamond, the C. S. Holmes, and the Rimu will sail this afternoon, COAL FROM NEWCASTLE. The Rakanoa (2240 tons) with a full cargo of coal from Newcastle, arrived yesterday morning. The bulk of this coal Is for the Railway Department, while 500 tjns are consigned to the New Plymouth gas works. It is expected that four or five days will be spent in discharging, which was commenced yesterday. Strong north-east winds caused the vessel to take 8% days on the voyage across the Tasman Sea, THE ROSAMOND. The Rosamond arrlvod shortly after mid-day yesterday from Wellington with 400 tons of general cargo. It is expected she will get away for the West Coast about noon to-day. THE RIMU TO-DAY. The Rlmu left Onehunga yesterday afternoon on her usual trip to New Plymouth She returns north this afternoon. CORINNA MAY BE DIVERTED. The Corinna is scheduled to leave Nelson for New Plymouth to-day, arriving here tomorrow, but owing to the congestion at New Plymouth It is possible she may be diverted. C. S. HOLMES SAILS. TO-DAY. The schooner C. S Holmes, which has been In port for some weeks discharging benzine from San Francisco, will sail this afternoon for Papeete. The vessel was recently "seized" under Admiralty Court, instructions, but it is understood that satisfactory arrangements have been made, and she will be released this morning. RETURN OF THE MAPOURIKA. The Mapourika will make her re-appearance In the New Plymouth-South Island cargo service- to-day. She is due about 10 o'clocX this morning. ' THE OTARAMA. The exact date of the arrival' at New Plymouth of the Otarama Is not known yet. The vessel Is at present In Australian waters. SCHOONER IN DISTRESS. Sydney reports that the four-masted 1 schooner W. E. Burnham, bound from Wellington to Newcastle, was picked up in distress near Seal Rocks and towed to Newcastle. MARAMA WITH MAIL. The Marama, with English and American mails. Is due In Wellington on August 4 from San Francisco. CANADIAN GOVERNMENT LINE. The Canadian Prospector Is due at Sydney to-morrow from Vancouver, and at Wellington about August 20th. The Canadian Importer Is loading at Vancouver for Australia and New Zealand ports. The Canadian Exporter Is due at Vancouver at the end of this week, and will load for Australia and New Zealand. WAIMATE, AT LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received cable advice tbatJlie liner Walmate arrived at London on July 15th from Wellington. The vessel left Wellington on May 31st. MOANA RESUMING. The Moana Is under overhaul at Port Chalmers, and will sail about August 9 for Wellington, leaving the latter port on August 12 for Sydney and Hobart in place of Ihs Manuka which, on arrival in Wellington on August 9 from Sydney, withdraws and proceed! to Port Chalmers for overhaul. CARGO FROM AMERICA. The steamer Shahristan, under charter to the Union Company, left San Francisco on July 22 with cargo for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Adelaide. She is due at Lyttelton on August 24. AYRSHIRE FROM LIVERPOOL. The liner Ayrshire, which left Liverpool on July 7th for New Zealand ports via Bfcnama, is cargo-laden for Auckland, Wellington, Lyt. telton and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland on August 21st and at Wellington about AugUßt 30th. . WESTRALIA FROM MELBOURNE. The Westralla sailed/ from Melbourne yesterday direct for Wellington, bringing passengers and cargo. "The vessel Is due at Wellington on Tuesday. NIAGARA LEFT VANCOUVER.
