COURSING.

THE WATERLOO CUP. C?ENING OF THE MEETING. TWO ROTOJDS DECIDED. This year the privilege of running the New Zealand Waterloo Cup fixture was accorded the New Plymouth Coursing Club, and the fixture commenced at the Club's Plampton, Glen Avon, Fitzroy, yesterday afternoon before a large gathering of sporting enthusiasts. From a spectator's point of view the weather was Ideal, and, generally speaking, the arrangements excellent. According to cus:nm the slake is for 64 dogs.or bitches, and 'ho club did well to receive 51 acceptances., which is the highest attained for upwards of 15 years. So far the sport for the opening day was of a high standard, and an unusual number of brilliant trials' were witnessed, while the percentage of kins was a very low one. It is high credit, to the success of the club's efforts to indicate that everything went off without a hitch, and while acknowledging the good work o fa large number of gratuitous workers on the club's behalf, special mention is due to the judge, Mr. .T. Jenkinson, who wielded the flags, Mr. P. McConnell, of Wellington, slipper, and the secretary, Mr. P. Doughty. The National Coursing Club of New Zealand was represented by Mr. H. Divers, of Dunedin (secretary).

In tho trials that have, already taken place the general quality' of "the sport was my high, and in, some c.-.ses splendid hares were coursed and outpaced the dogs The principal event on the card is the Waterloo Cup Itself, and the dogs taking part will pass on from that through the various stages until the Waterloo Purse and Waterloo riate events, are also decided. It is perhaps a matter of* regret that the South Island is not better represented; it seems quite evident that the Cun will be located in the North Island The meeting is being conducted on Plumpton lines, and the whole of the arrangements give every Indication of working smoothly and satisfactorily. Tho judce gave "Ms decisions n-otvotly. and they appeared to meet with reneral approval. , Quite a number of does ran unsighted In the first round, but this was remedied In the second round by shortening the slip. In all. forty-four courses were rim (ivirins the afternoon. This afternoon the card comprises the third round of the Cup the first and rounds of the 'Purse and Plate. Details are:-* FIBST BOUND.
