To-day, 28th July, is the sixt.li anniversary of Austria's declaration of war on Serbia in 1914, following the Serajevo incident. The totalisator tax last year realised £184,380, the bank note tax £212,626, and the amusements tax £68,326.

During the financial year 1,735 films, containing 3,791,230 feet, were examined by the'censor of films. Of these twelve were rejected, and cuts were made in 143. The receipts amounted to £1260, which sum was in excess of the expenditure, states, the Financial Statement. The competition was conducted by the Misses Hammond and Warren, and the prizes may be had any day at Mrs. Burgess' rooms, Devon Street Central.
