The Kliyber, the steamer on which Father Jerger was deported, has arrived. No communication witli the shore was permitted. Local passengers are being landed, and the vessel 3s then proceeding direct for Colombo. Although no official' statement was made, it is still freely rumored that the vessel had a rendezvous with the cruiser Encounter, and that Jerger was transferred to the warship. The Supreme Court refused an application for a writ of habeas corpus, callins' upon the captain of the Khyber to show cause for the detention of Jerger. Leave to appeal was granted.—Afls.-N.Z. An application on behalf of Jerger for an order to enable his evidence in connection with his cjaim for £SOOO damages from General Ryrie, Assistant Minister of Defence, to be taken on commission, was refused.—Aus.-N.Z. In view of the boycott of the Penin* sular and Oriental Company, arising out of the Jerger deportation, the company is asking the Federal Government for compensation for any loss'incurrred.
The wharf laborers refused to work the steamer Berrima to-day, and were replaced by men from tiie Shipping Labor Bureau. In the event of the boycott continuing at other porta, the company's steamers will load sufficient coal at Sydney to carry their vessels to Colombo.
