A letter was received from tie ?rhn» Minister regarding the ferry etefttter ■ from Lyttelton missing, the connection ■ with the New Plymouth train and stiiu V ing that in order to ensure connection it would be necessary for the train to lean > Wellington much later than at present, with later arrival at all stations to des- '>). tination. Any alterations,, such aa suggested, would dislocate the whole of the • train services and crossings on the Wei- < lington-Napier-New Plymouth lines. The matter would, however, be brought tin- ' der the notice of the Union , Steam Slip ' Company with a view to an endeavor 1»«» , v ing made for 'the ferry steamers to reach : Wellington whenever possible in time, to make the connection.—Received. v j The Stratford Chamber of ConuaerM 1 wrote, seeking support, to a proposal thfttv - New Plymouth be the port of landing for ' phosphate rock from Nauru forTaranaki.' It was stated that there was a grinding > plant in Taranaki. Air. Gillanders said there may ba grinding plants, but there were bit's" means for making superphosphate*; They could only deal with ft limited quantity of raw material. 7
The chairman said they could not sup-* ' port the proposal until they had mora information. He moved that the secretary write, asking for further information as to the locality, nature, and capacity of the plant. This was seconded byvMr. Gillanders and carried. It was stated that there was a plant- , in Auckland for converting the rock Into" superphosphates. . v ■ A circular letter was received from the. Stratford Progressive League inviting the ' Chamber to send delegates to a conference of local bodies, co-operative dairy companies, etc., to be held at Stratford on July 26, with the object of forming ft ■ Tajanaki League to further the general ■■■ interests of th» province. . <i Mr. Gillanders said that Stratford wap 1 making, a strong point of the Main, Trunk Connection, but what interested ' them much mo|e was the Te Rotd-Opu-nake line. v ~j Mr. dsborne spid the local bodies were -' not losing sight of South Taranakft in- ' terests, and both the Mayor and Mr, * Murdoch would pittend the conference.
