CHILDREN AND PICTURES.
BETTER REGULATIONS URGED, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The conference of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health oi VVoinen and Children finished torday. It was decided that the Railway Department he asked to place in every railway waiting room a notice drawing attention to the address of the nearest Plnnket nurse.
A proposal to affiliate with the National Council of Women was defeated.
The conference agreed: (1) That moving pictures, as at present shown, are injurious to children and young persons; (2) that in regard to moving picture shows, this conference represents to the Government its very -strong feeling as to the utter inadequacy of the present provision in the way. of regulation and censorship to safeguard the children of the Dominion; (3) that the attendance of children at picture shows, and the pictures allowed to be shown to children, should be regulated through tho Education Department; (4) that picture programmes should be classified into, (a) adults' programmes, (b) children's programmes.
The election of the central council resulted: President, Mrs. J. A. Johnstone; Vice-Presidents, Mrs. W. F. Massey and Mrs. McGeorge; committee, Mesdames L. Bloonifield, Pyne, Newman, T. K. Sidey, Vigor Brown, J. C. McGeorge, W. A. Moore, C. W. Rattray, and Snow; treasurer, Mrs. Theomin; secretary, Miss Hoddinott.
