COASTAL VESSEL ASHORE.
ACCIDENT NEAR HOKITIKA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—CopyrljM, Hokitika, Last Night. The coastal steamer Paoroa, when crossing the Hokitika bar outwards' this afternoon, struck the ground heavily. The impact carried away the stern post and rudder. Temporary steering' gear was fixed, liut the steamer was leaking heavily, and it was found necessary to beach her one .mile to the northwards. All on board were landed safely. The vessel had a cargo of sawn timber for Picton.
