MOTORISTS' UNION.

THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the conference of the New Zealand Automobile Union to-day,, it was decided that the Minister of "internal Affairs should, on account of the narrowness of country roads, be asked to enforce the regulation prohibiting motor car owners or drivers from loading luggage or goods projecting beyond the running boards of cars. • A remit from the Marlborough Automobile Association was passed, urging that every driver of a motor car should have a certificate of competency before being allowed to drive a car on pub'ic roads. Letters were read from the OtagO Motor Club and the Canterbury Automobile Association, stating that those bodies wished to resign from the Union. Mr. Stuart Wilson (Wellington) moved that the resignations be accepted. Considerable discussion took place, during which it was urged that some means should be devised to bring the South Island Motor Union into closer touch with the New Zealand Automobile Union. It was explained by Mr. Ansell that the formation of the new union was n6t the result of jealousy between the North and South Islands. Mr. Stevenson moved an amendment that the resignations be held over in the meantime, so that the two bodies concerned might consider the matter and indicate in what way they could assist the New Zealand Union. The amendment was carried. On the proposition of Mr. Wynyard (Auckland) it was decided that fees from affiliated associations should be as follows:—Minimum £lO, maximum £3O. The question whether the publication of the year book should be continued, was referred to the incoming executive. It was resolved: uniform Warning signs to be,placed at the approaches to schools to be agreed upon, and made general throughout the Dominion." Prendergaat Knight (Wellington) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. 6. Henning (Auckland), C. M, Br.nKs (Wellington); secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Beauchamp Platts; executive committee, Dr. C.
