PRICE OF MILK.
A CHARGE STRUCK OUT. v By Teletrapli.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court a charge had been laid against the Pea&ef»ton Dairy Company of attempting to charge i the.city an unreasonably high prjee for milk, viz., 1/6 per gallon. ■ '■ Counsel said the city was able to arrange with farmers at a rate which represents 1/5 landed in the city, but the Featherston suppliers demanded- i/i at the factory. TheCouaoil offered 1/3, but the suppliers refused, and there had been a serious shortage for some montht. The information had been laid! with the consent of the Board, of Trade, but the latter had settled upon 1/6, Li consequence of next year's prices being fixed at a higher rate it was felt that no good would be served by now going on with the proceedings, and he asked to have the information withdrawn. "I do not think this is a com in which I should consent to withdrawal," said the Magistrate, "for if there f|tt breach of the law it should be followed up. The fact that the .parties have come to an agreement with reference to the prices to be paid for the future attpply of milk does not seem to me sufficient reason for my consenting to-the withdrawing of a criminal prosecution, but if you offer no evidence in support of the charge I shall strike out the case." This was done, with costs to the company.
