The question of getting on foot a movement for the establishment of a hostel for business girls in Stratford is receiving the support of the local Retailers' Association, and the matter will be discussed at its next meeting. Practically all the drapers in the town are short of lady assistants, and they find it almost impossible to get girls from outside the . town unless they can guarantee accommodation. A large quantity of benzine arrived in Stratford from New Plymouth to-day, e\' the C. S. Holmes and the Donald McKay. The loan proposals shortly to be submitted to the ratepayers are evoking a good deal of discussion on account of the large amount—£l3l,ooo—which it is proposed to borrow, and ratepayers are awaiting with interest the details of the loan to be announced. The sale of tickets for the Stratford Returned Soldiers' Associations re-union dinnec will positively stop on Saturday. A farewell social and dance will be tendered fo Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Lonergan and family in the Town Hall, Stratford, on Monday next at 8 p.m. A social and dance will be held in the Stanley Road School on Friday evening as a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. H. Johnson.
