BOXING.
A MATCH ABANDONED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Nighi. A boxing contest between Holland and Clabby, which was to have taken place on Friday night, has been abandoned. The match was originally arranged between Uren and Holland, the purse being £SOO. Uren is suffering from mumps, and Clabby was therefore wired and asked if he would ttght Holland for £4OO. Clabby wired his acceptance. This morning Clabby, who arrived last night, declared he had not been aware that Uren and Holland were to fight for a £SOO purse, and he declined, as a matter of principle, to fight for a lesser Sum. Both sides are adamant, so the contest has been abandoned.
Wanganui, Later. It is now stated that Clabby, while reiterating his determination not to fight'-for less than the purse of £SOO offered for the Uren-Hol-iand match, Intimated to the executive'that he was willing they should hand £IOO to any local charitable institution they wished. THE FORTHCOMING TOURNAMENT. A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association *as held last night, when It was reported that everything is now in readiness for the tournament to be held on Thursday, July 29, and keen interest is being evinced in the meeting of T. Thompson a«d Frank Brown, the winners at the recent tournament is shown by number of applications that have already been received for seats though the plan has not yet been opened,
