DAIRY RECORD HONORS FOR TARANAKI. We desire, and we feel certain that every farmer in Taranaki will join with us to offer sincerest congratulations to Mr. James Nicolson, of Kaupokonui, m securing the honor of a New Zealand Record in butter-fat production with his purebred Jersey heifer Aster's August Child (says the Hawera Star). ThU animal finished her semi-official test last week with the splendid record of C57.74"u of fat and 11,4821b of milk in 365 days. To qualify for semi-official certificate she required to make 240.51b of fat. The previous New Zealand record for a cow under 3 years was held by Mr. 1\ S. Mcßae's Mere, who recordel G®3.641b of fat and 12,1841b of milk in 365 days. Aster's August Child is v a stylish little animal, with a perfect top line, neat head, good body and good udder. Mr. Nicholson informs us that she was grazed on lucerne through her milki ing during the day and on a grass pad!.dock at night time. She did nQt have J more than £l2 worth of artificial feed , during the test and' was not fed up before she calved. She was milked twice daily and started her test at the age of one year and eleven months. THE CHAMPION'S PEDIGREE Aster's August Child was borri on August 8 1917 and calved on July 11, 1919, three weeks before her time, giro: Bright Aster (963), by StarbightGenoa Daisy. (Bright Aster is a halfbrother to Sultan'# Daisy, Messrs. O'Swllivan and Sons' champion butterfat cow, on the dam's side. He is also the sire of Aster's B"berry, for which Mr. Weston paid 270 guineas, and which died when under test last spring') Dam: Corona, by Flirt's Magnet (32). by Royal Blue (19(12), bv.
