A PROVINCIAL MOVEMENT.
TARANAKI PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE. A conference of delegates representing local bodies, co-operative dairy companies, etc., will be held in the Munici. pal Chambers, Stratford, on Monday, July 20, at 2.30 p.m. The object of the Conference is to form a Taranaki Progressive League to further the general interests of Taranaki. On the 21st May a conference of members of Parliament representing Taranaki, Stratford, Waitomo and Egmont electorates was held, and the following, resolutions adopted by the members of Parliament were later submitted to a joint conference of representatives of local bodies, Stratford and Taranaici members of Parliament, and unanimously adopted. The resolutions touch'various matters which, in the opinion of the Conference, represent the ;nqst important works which should receive the immediate attention of the Government The resolutions are as follows:
1. That in tho opinion of this meeting the first work is to be put through, on behalf of the Taranaki Provincial .District is the rapid completion of the Stratf6rd-Okabukura railway. 2. That the Government be asked to concentrate on the completion of all tunnel works and bridges to be put through on the line.
3. That the Te Roti-Moturoa line receive the fullest consideration from the Government as it would be an immediate revenue-producing line. 4. That the re-opening of the Mount Egmont quarries be urged as a work of importance on the Government, as thi? would be in the interests of the whole provincial district. 5. That the Government be asked to provide on the estimates for the erection of a bridge over Mokau. Before the close of the Conference it was unanimously resolved:— "That a Conference of Delegates of all Local Bodies and other interested bodies in the under-mentioned electorates, be convened with a viev/ to forming a Progressive League for the purpose of pressing the needs and requirements of the Taranaki, Stratford, Waitomo, Egmont and Patea Electorates, and that the resolutions adopted at this Conference be submitted to such Conference."
