There passed away at Mata last Thursday afternoon, after a long illness, one of our oldest' settlers, Mr. Denis Mannex, aged 86 years (ropprti tharArgus). Deceased in the course of hU long life had.a rather, varied experience. Born near Searriff, County Clare, Ireland, his parents took him at Jhe age of six years to Australia, to the various fSjtd diggings there, and after seven ytut brought him back to Ireland whero ib* remained until he attained to the age. of 27 years, when he returned to Australia, and from thence came to New Zealand 40 years ago, 35 of which he spent at Mat* on his farm. Deceased was-a quiet, in* dustrious, hard-working man, whoso word was his bond,, upright and honorable in all his dealings, and most respected and beloved by his neighbors. He is survived by his widow, two iOBI-*-Thomas and Denis—and five daughters, viz., Mrsj. G. Davis, of New Plymouth, Mra. Bercy Toylforth, of Manganui, Mrs. Charles Trott, of Te Koti, and two un« married daughters, Mary and Katie r of Mata. •
