SUGAR SUPPLY.

BETTER ALLOCATION FOR TARANAKI. The question of increasing the alio■cation of sugar for Taranaki waa placed before the Board of Trade last week by Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., and good results are expected from his efforts. Speaking to a Daily News reporter last night, Mr. Smith said it had been reported from Wellington that he hud complained about the distribution of sugar, but it was the allocation which he took exception to. He pointed out to the Board of Trade that the quantity sent to New Plymouth was not sufficient, and suggested that in fixing the allocation the Board had not allowed for the rapid increase in the population of New Plymouth and other Taranaki towns. Mr. Smith further pointed out that short shipments were" frequently landed here, and that the deficiencies were never made up. As a result of his representations, Mr. Smith believes that both these complaints will be remedied, and that in a few weeks Taranaki will begin, to receive shipments of sugar sufficient for its requirements. It is also probable that the New Plymouth distributors «f sugar will be induced to build up a reserve supply, so that when regular shipments are delayed and there is a shortage, supplies will be available from the reserve.
